About
Blair Purvis is a novelist living in Melbourne.
His work is concerned with desire, geography, and the slow, difficult business of being known — with the distance between the private and public versions of a man, and what it costs to close it.
He was born in Melbourne to Scottish parents and grew up in the city’s outer east. He has lived in Europe and spent considerable time in the Americas — both North & Central. He’s travelled widely through the Middle East, North Africa and Asia, places that take centre stage in his work. He returned to Melbourne, where he writes, publishes, edits and engineers sound for community radio.
He is a gay man and a father of two, raised in a co-parenting arrangement that he would recommend to anyone with the inkling for it.
His third book, The Art of Surrender, is published on 15 October 2026.
